Sharing Our Book Reviews
5th and 4th Grade:
Once you have finished writing your book review, choose how you would like to share it!
1. Publish on Destiny Quest
Using your Google Drive, type your review up as a Google Doc. Be sure to give your Book Review a name (Example: Library Book Review).
Copy and paste your review into Destiny Quest under the title of the book. You can rate the book, also!

2. Use Voki on a laptop or desktop to create a cartoon.
Go to the Voki website and click the "Create" tab. Choose an avatar that would make sense for your book. (For example: The One and Only Ivan could be an elephant or a gorilla) Decide on what it will look like, give it a background and then give your character your review to read. You can:
-record your voice with the laptop microphone or headphones reading your review
-type your review to be read in a voice you choose
Save and share with Mrs. Sharp!
3. Record a video of yourself sharing your book review. Use the Flip camera to record it (have a friend help you) and then Mrs. Sharp will put it on the LibGuide.
Five Easy Steps to Making a Great Book Trailer
Step One: Study the Masters
- Watch some book trailers. Think about what you like and don't like about them. What makes them good? (Some links for book trailers are on the left.)
- Using the Analyzing Book Trailers form, watch some book trailers and take notes on what you notice.
- Do you notice that they ALWAYS give you the author and title of the book?
- Watch the video about storyboarding in the movie industry.
Step Two: Tell a story
· How will you tell the story of your book? Think about the images, the text, and the sounds. All of these need to FIT your book. Scary? Funny? Serious? Exciting?
· The text on the screen should be short and snappy. Try a question, to make your viewer think.
· How will you grab the viewer's attention?
· Print the planning and storyboard templates on the right. Use them write your plan and create your storyboard.
Step Three: Choose your images and music
· Choose pictures with a Creative Commons license. Remember to copy the link to every image, so that you can give proper credit.
· For characters in your book try to match race, hair color, and age.
· You can choose to take your own pictures with a digital camera to use in your book trailer.
· You may look at the links on the right for copyright free images.
· Save all images to your folder.
· Listen to the music samples in the program to find one that's just right for the story you are telling. Choose the genre that fits your book.
· If using iMovie, you may try adding a voiceover or sound effects.
Step Four: Use the right tool for the job
- Educational use provides free, easy to use movie making.
- Requires a user login and password, and is accessible from anywhere there is Internet access.
- Has a variety of musical selections to choose from.
- Text is limited to short sentences and phrases.
- It is only accessible at school.
- Has the ability to include video clips as well as still images.
- Has the ability to include voiceover recordings.
- Many options for transitions between images.
- Has a variety of musical selections and sound effects to choose from.
Step Five: Evaluate
· BEFORE, you turn in your book trailer, look at it. Evaluate it. Ask yourself, "Did I do my best on this assigment?"
- Does it make me curious about the book?
- Do the pictures and music fit the tone of the book?
- Does it grab my attention?
- Is the text spelled and punctuated correctly?
- Did I include the author and title of my book?
- Did I include credits at the end, listing the link for every picture I used? (You don't have to give credits for your own photos.)
- Does it address the key points on my learning rubric?

How Do I Give Credit for my Images?
Open PowerPoint. Create a blank slide for text.
Minimize PowerPoint (-).
When you find an image that you want to use, copy [Command C] the URL from the address box up on top of the screen and paste [Command V] the URL onto your slide. Write down a few words to describe the image.
Repeat the copy and paste step for every image.
Save the slide as a JPEG image in your blue server folder with the images. You will need to add it to your book trailer at the very end.
