Library Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to the Beginning of the Year Scavenger Hunt!  

     

Purpose:  This activity will help you learn about or review the sections in the library as well as the library resources. 

Directions:  You can work together with a partner or by yourself to find the answers to the questions below.  Record your answers on a separate piece of paper.   You do not have to work on the questions in order, but please remember to work safely and respectfully.

Around the library:

1.  Politely introduce yourself to the librarian.  What is her name?

2.  Each section in the library is labeled with blue signs on the end of the shelves.

a.  How many sections are there?  

b.  List each section and describe what types of books are in that section.

3.  Find the Magazine section.

a.  List the titles of three magazines that are available.

b.  Can you check out magazines from the library?

4.  Find the Fiction section.

a.  How are these books organized?

b.  Look at the call number on the spine.  What does the "FIC" stand for?

c.  Find a book written by an author who shares your last initial. List one title by that author.

5.  Find the Everybody section.

a.  How are these books organized?

b.  Look at the call number on the spine.  What does the "E" stand for?

6. Find the Non-Fiction section.

a.  Look at the call number on the spine.  How are these books organized?

b.  Look at the numbers on the shelves.  How can they help you find a book?

7.  Find the Biography section.

  a.  How are these books organized?

b.  Look at the call number on the spine.  What does "BIO" stand for?

8.  Find the Reference Section.

a.  How are these books organized?

b.  Look at the call number on the spine.  What does "REF" stand for?

c.  List 2 different types of books that can be found in this section.

d.  Can you check out a Reference book?
